Phenomena in Industrial Glass Melting Processes
Monday, October 14, 2013  |  Noon to 5 p.m. | $225/$175 for GMIC member
Instructor: Ruud Beerkens PhD, CelSian Glass and Solar, Eindhoven, The Netherlands

This course deals with processes in industrial glass furnaces that are decisive for glass quality, furnace lifetime, and particulate emissions. The mechanisms of gases in glass melts will be discussed and the relationship between fining, redox state and temperature on bubble removal will be demonstrated. Glass melt – refractory interaction mechanisms will be explained, with the most important example of fused cast AZS refractory materials. Particulates are formed from glass melt surface reaction between melt components and combustion space gas.
